Hi, I'm Houston.
I'm a very friendly guy who loves to
give kisses and is a constant
tail-wagger! But man, do I have quite a
story to tell. My family is getting
divorced. It happens. But last
Thursday my Dad left and left me
chained in the back yard. He thought
my Mom would be back that day. I
tried to follow him and got hung over
the fence by my choke collar. I stayed
there, hanging, until Monday when my
Mom came.
I'm a very friendly guy who loves to
give kisses and is a constant
tail-wagger! But man, do I have quite a
story to tell. My family is getting
divorced. It happens. But last
Thursday my Dad left and left me
chained in the back yard. He thought
my Mom would be back that day. I
tried to follow him and got hung over
the fence by my choke collar. I stayed
there, hanging, until Monday when my
Mom came.
The collar cut into me and I bled a lot. There were really scary thunderstorms
and I wished I was anywhere but hanging by my neck outside alone. It hurt
and the days and nights just seemed to go on forever... I was pretty weak
and tired by the time she found me. But I knew that if I just tried really hard to
live, someone would come for me. I was so happy to see her! I knew she'd
come. She took me to the doctor and I was a mess. I had to have surgery and
have lots of sutures and staples down my side and neck. When I woke up
from surgery, I wanted to see my Mom, but the vet people explained that she
had done something called 'abandoned' me. That means she is not coming
back for me. If she would just come back, I'd tell her myself I forgive her.
I don't blame anyone. It's a dog thing. I'm still the same old loving guy and
work really hard to give everyone kisses around the silly e-collar I have to
wear (they let me take it off for my photo).
So...it looks like I'm looking for a new home. I will make you such a good dog,
you will not even believe. Friends For Life is covering the cost of my follow up
care--Don't worry, I'll be just fine but will need my sutures removed when it is
time. Otherwise, I'm very healthy. I mean, it took a lot of strength to go
through what I did. Please take a moment stop by the adoption center and
see me.
The other thing is that I'm kind of on the clock here. I can only stay where I
am at the hospital through Saturday the 30th. Then I need a foster home to
stay in if I don't have a real home yet. I'm good in my kennel, walk on a leash,
and Friends For Life will pay all my room and board. Do you have a space for
me?

UPDATE: Since my story went public in June, I have found a wonderful, loving
foster mom who is taking great care of me, and so my June 30 deadline for
finding a forever family passed without incident. However, I am still in search
of a permanent place to call home! Can't wait to meet you...
